Who really cares what is in Brian Nelson's Brian? Maybe no one. So in that case it has just led me down the path closer to my son Avery's Carpal Tunnel of the arm or Agnes's carpal tunnel of the hand. Well  there is only one way to find out. I am going to start this today and see how long it will be before someone would possibly be interested in what is going on in Brian's Brian.  This is "Thinking outside the box" and finding out if anyone else is able to find an interest in looking outside their own box, looking into my box just incase there is some reason to really learned what is going on in there.  Psychiatrists will have a field day with this page. If any of  them ever write me I will credit their writing me and give you a link to their  websites.

You see, I really want to know  about what  other people are thinking than they do of me.  People can  help other people  if they only will let them. BUT.........MOST JUST DON'T.  CHECK IT OUT.  How much do you really want to know about  others? Not much.  We just are often afraid to learn too much about others. If and when they want our opinion then they will start asking questions.  They don't want you to really know what is in their brain. Most people don't  care  most of the time.

I think there is a reasonable solution to just about any problem.  First we have to admit that there is a problem. I have tons of ideas and thoughts on just about everything. I am over my head 90% of the time in just everything I do.  But the Lord pulls me through it with winning colors each and every time.  I really like to delegate things out but it often just doesn't happen. I was going to apply for the Procrastinator of the Year Award but I just kept putting it off until later. I  think by brain is miles ahead of what I am really able to accomplish if I could only  find out how to delegate everything and just do the thinking.  "Ah ha, you probably have been to my  http://www.BrianNelsonConsulting.com  or to http://www.NelsonIdeas.com   web page.
So how can I turn these think possibilities into something real.  For one thing I have to stop procrastinating  just about everything.  Maybe this brain journal will help me determine what I have to do to make more of the difference that I am really capable of accomplishing. Tomorrow something new will be going on in   Brian's Brain  . Since there may be not educational value to you then maybe you can get some entertainment by nosing into another's life just like the stupid soap operas on television that are watched by tens of millions  great hearted Americans become avid viewers who want to know what bizarre crazy thing people are going to do with each other.
You can  learn more about me when you visit a few of the hundreds of my web sites by looking in  my blue affiliate box on the bottom of all my websites.

One of the only ways you will get to this page is for you  to find the Brian's Brian link  on your own on my large affiliate blue-box on which is an "include page" updated hourly on  hundred of my websites. You would be looking for the words,  Click Brian's Brain which can be found under multiple descriptions including the columns of  Consulting, Medical Information, Religious, Free space or just look under entertainment. Thought posted may be truncated.   This is a diary or personal journal. I am not going to keep it private because I would be the only one to have reason to look at it.

DAY 1. Today  is Saturday June 25, 2005  Day 1   Yesterday I decided that I would finally have to get some free water on my lawn. The weather has been in the 90's with no rain.  My trees and yard desperately need water.  I had my lawn pump working a couple of years ago but it has been idle for that last 2 years because our rain shortage was not as great as it is now.  I invited my friend Charles ( the oil guru ) to help me.  We got the Flotec pump to run well and reestablished it in the line of things but it failed to develop a prime.  I removed the foot value.  Interesting things  showed up. The entire outside of the valve with a thousand holes was surrounded with a blanked of closely grown moss. That was easy to remove. It revealed a clam inside the factory sealed foot valve. It's  body mass was now 500 times greater than when flowed into the valve as a newborn clam through the holes.  So it go stuck inside the valve and in a short period grew to a size just bigger than the 1/32 holes. So for the last 2 to 3 years it grew to the size it was now. No equivalent valves were available from Sears so I

TENT NOTES: Our tents are modular.  After your have finished using the tent for the first time  You can re-cycle the steel connectors very easily into another product. For long term set ups I would highly recommend the use a Dome Tent instead of a Gable Roof Tent.  It is better with high winds, water ponding and clear span space. Remember that our tents do not include the 10 ft. long EMT straight pipe which you purchase in your city from a home convenience center. It will cost about as much as the rest of the party tent kit that you buy from me. I have seen a price  reduction on the west coast for pipe. Make a few phone calls to get the best price. Be sure they have aas  much  as you need. You may have to go to several locations if you are buying a big tent.  Brian 713-467-3025 Click here to  e-mail me with any questions.

Trigeminal Neuralgia,
aka. Tic douloreaux  or  TN
& Temporomadibular Joint
aka TMJ
My Story -  A Compendium  ud 06/16/2005

  by Brian Nelson, Houston, TX
Hi,

I am putting together this page to centralize some of the data on the internet about  Trigeminal Neuralgia aka tic douloreaux.  IT is also know as TN . I have TN or some related version . My first trip to the GP DR. B did not provide a clue to what I had but he did the normal thing and sent me for an MRI. ( Magnetic Resonance Imaging uses magnetic resonance to produce images of the body.) on July 6,  2004. I took 2nd  MRI and a MRA  on Aug. 28, 2004. The only item discovered during those expensive tests was a pinched nerve resting on the spinal column. Medically the report said.  Moderate spondylosis and annular bulging are present form C3-4 thought C 6-7, most serve at C 3-4.  A 45 minute EMG  determined that that  problem was of minor concern for a nerve in the leg.

In July my dentist Dr. T-R Suggested the I look up trigeminal neuralgia. Bingo. After reading the information about Trigeminal Neuralgia on the web I  felt I finally located something about a problem that had been puzzling me since May 2004.   Reading about TN was depressing at first but it was also consoling in that I now felt that I am  not alone with these inside the head pains.  Most importantly they were not a figment of my imagination.

Trigeminal neuralgia  is universally known as the most painful affliction know to medical practice. It is not fatal but the nature of it can be suicidal.  If you or a loved one has something similar to this disease  write something about it and write to me about it. .  If you want I can publish your story on this website.  You need to give me permission to post it on this site.

My first visit to a neurologist Dr. R.  was in July  2004. A prescription for Flexerel was given. After a week I determined that it may be the source of a very itchy rash on the right side of my neck after I stopped taking the medication and the rash went a way. Then I was given Neurontin.  On  9-13-04  my dosage was increased to 1800 mgs of Neurontin per day. . I didn't think the 1800 mg was doing me any good. I called Dr. R about it .  On 9-24-04 he suggested to increase the Neurontin  to 3000 mg (5  600 mg pills / day.) It did not seem to be doing any good. I still received  significant jolts to the left side of my face. I  decided I should taper off of Neurontin. I did so over a 2 week period but when I got totally off of it  my pain from jolts came in much stronger than before. So I went back on some of it and the heaviness of the jolts decreased.

I had appointment  with Dr. R is Oct 6, 2004. As usual I had to  wait an hour and then I finally had to leave for another commitment without seeing Dr . R  I  had been treated by Dr. .R since July  and my pain had not seem to be diminished. I located a specialist Dr. K   Oct. 20, 2004. I  was then  put on 600 mg of Neurontin and  600 mg of Tegretol.  It  significantly reduced my electrical jabs. October 28 I had a dental appointment  for a routine cleaning. I mentioned my TN problems as my jaw ached considerably. I could not open my mouth easily for the hygienist to easily work on  my teeth. Dentist  Dr. TR suggested  I considered us of a TNI device to prevent Bruxism, ie teeth grinding. It may be  the cause of my very aching  jaw pain  which destroyed my will to focus very long on anything.  My theory is that the thousands of electrical jabs in the  middle of the night  may have overworked those poor jaws causing me to tighten down on my teeth. I purchased the TNI.  You can see a 6 minute video on it at
www.HeadachePrevention.com  I think that the lower jaw seems to be much more relaxed and I could  open my mouth wider. The back part of the jaw still has aching pain which may be from getting used to the TNI device.

Based on my pain circulating from the top of  the left side of my head to the deep part of my throat Dr. K thinks  I have Atypical Facial Pain, ATFP .What is ATFP?. It is is a syndrome encompassing a wide group of facial pain problems.   The outlook seems  even worse than Trigeminal Neuralgia as some experts say that MVD surgery is not usually a successful option for ATFP. It is usually treated with medication.  Darn!    You will find details about ATFP on website no. 4 of this compendium.

I learned from the web about the Trigeminal Neuralgia Association  based in Florida.  Every 2 years they have a national conference. During the TNA  Conference in Florida Nov 10-14, 2005 Often  Dr. PJ  said atypical facial pain may mean that that  there is more than one blood vessel compressing more than one nerve. You have to be  skilled in looking for it..  All should be corrected during the same time if one chooses an MVD procedure. I have heard other MVD neurosurgeon Dr. TK.  states that he has never  seen more than one blood vessel causing a problem.  Now who do I believe?

My wife Rosemary and I attended the TNA  National Conference on Trigeminal Neuralgia November 11-14, 2004  at the Walt Disney World Orlando Hilton in Florida.  It  consisted of  some long days listening to the informative presentations  provided by about 50 doctors.  Enroute I discovered how true the information I had read about how altitude change on an airplane can bring on more  intensity of TN problems. Pain enroute was excruciating in the  pressurized cabin.

November 12, 2004 while  I was at the conference I developed a full body rash.  I was not sure what was causing it. IT was not painful.

On my return trip I increased my Tegretol dosage the day before and the day of travel as advised at the conference.  It decreased the head pressure and gave me traveling comfort.  Enroute the  hearing on my left side  went out at the same time the altitude was affecting my TN pain.  My hearing resumed after a nights sleep but 2 days later went out again prior to the return flight and did not return to normal in about 30 days when  I visited a ENT specialist DR. V  who determined that my pressure was not correct in my left ear and was affecting my hearing. Holding my nose and blowing heavily  with a closed mouth did not discharge the liquid in the ear area.  DR. V did a lancing procedure  which restored my left ear hearing.

On  Nov. 16, 2004 I reported the full blown body rash t to Dr. JK.  His immediate response was to immediately  get off the Tegretol and up the Neurontin to cover this loss. When the rash disappeared  a different  drug  Amytriptyline was prescribed starting with 10mg and increased to 30 mg. The Neurontin was upped  to 1200 mg/day.

About Jan. 7, 2005 while flossing my teeth I discovered that my top teeth would not line up with my bottom teeth. A dental visit on Jan. 11, 2005 with Dr. TR determined that  there is a good chance  that I have TMJ   (Temporomandibular Joint Disorder).  Yuk.  More pain and expense.  Phone calls to my insurance  company and a TMJ specialist office determined that it is not very likely that TMJ would be covered by insurance.  If you have any experience with TMJ please let me know. I finally made an appointment with a TMJ  Dentist Specialist for 1:30 PM on Jan 27. 2005. Earlier in the Morning on Jan 27 someone advised me that TMJ was a muscle only problem. She referred me to a Health and Wellness  office who saw me immediately. After an hour of massaging my shoulder, neck and face muscles I could open my mouth to 1 and a half fingers compared to a single finger wide opening.  Today I can open to about 2 finger. I will continue massage treatments. Dr. TK did not think it was related to the TN but could have been cause by the TN.  Let me know if you have had a similar experience.

While I attended a TNA Houston Support group meeting Jan 30, 2005 I mentioned to the meeting speaker  neurosurgeon DR. WH that I have had for a long time a numbness on the left side of my face. It is the side that my TN is on. I asked him what is the basis of the numbing since I have had  no TN treatment  other than meds.   He wondered if I had had a MRI. I mentioned that I have had several.  He felt that it is something he has not seen in handling over 100 TN patients a year. It could be something very serious. Darn. Another road block. Dr. TK's nurse thought that this  numbness is occurring including half my tongue because I brain is getting pain signals from other parts of my head relative to the TN . If you have any idea how this numbness can occur please call me or email me your thoughts. DR. TK said that an MVD could be done  with out any effects form the TMJ> .

If you have any experience with  anything about TN or TMJ please contact me.  If you find a web page with valuable  information please send it to me and I will link to it from this website.    You can find this site again  by typing  the word "neuralgia" backwards, ie. "aiglaruen" in Google. The next TNA  conference on TN will be in November  2006 in Seattle.   If you have Trigeminal Neuralgia I would highly  recommend that you and your spouse attend.  Be sure you buy and read ahead of the the book on TN called "Striking Back". You will meet many others with your similar problem and will hear many Doctors speak about the latest research and treatment in TN.  Another book that is a lot harder reading is called "Working in a Small Place" . IT is about the originator of the first MVD microvasular decomplression. Dr. Peter Jannetta.   Both books can be ordered from the TNA at a reasonable price.

As I write this  on 06/16/2005 the left side of my face is  still in a constant burning pain which seems to get tighter as the sun goes down. The left side of my tongue feels as if it got scaled drinking hot coffee. I have determined that I also have a possibly unrelated TMJ problems. TMJ refers to the Temporomadibular Joint.  has been that way for over a month  nown that I have been attending a special massage treatments twice a week which involves pressing of the should and face muscles to get them to be more relaxed. I have seen improvement from JIm B and Victoria W. When I started with the TMJ wellness problem I could open my mouth to 1 finger insertion. Now I am up to 2 fingers and a little bit.  I will continue to post my progress  here.

This story gets updated as things progress for me.
Be sure and keep checking this story and the directory for new information.
